1. What is Facial Feminisation?

Facial feminisation involves using a number of plastic procedures and plastic surgery techniques in order to give facial attributes a more feminine appearance. This result may be desired for a number of reasons and the procedures used can vary from one individual to the next.

If you are interested in facial feminisation surgery then the first step is to consult with one or more plastic surgeons. These medical professionals can evaluate your unique situation and then discuss the different options that they feel would benefit you, based on the results you are looking for.

2. What Will I Pay for FFS?

FFS can range from less than $20,000 to over $50,000. The cost will depend on many different factors, including:

  • The specific area where your plastic procedures will be performed.
  • The number and types of procedures the plastic surgeon will perform in order to achieve the desired results.
  • The training and experience of the plastic surgeon who performs your procedures.
  • The medical facility where your procedures will be performed.
  • Any hospitalisation costs, which can vary depending on the plastic procedures that you are having.
3. Which Procedures Will Be Used During My Facial Feminisation Surgery?

A plastic surgeon may use a number of different plastic procedures to give a more feminine appearance to your face. These procedures can include:

  • Brow shaving
  • Hairline advancement
  • Hair transplants
  • Rhinoplasty, often called a nose job
  • Cheek augmentation
  • Lip lift
  • Chin augmentation
  • Chin reduction
  • Jawbone reduction or shaving
  • Tracheal shave
  • Lip injections
  • Eye lift
  • Brow lift
  • Facelift
4. What Risks Are Involved With FFS?

Facial feminisation surgery involves risks, and this is true of any plastic surgery or plastic procedure. The risks are usually small but you need to consider them before undergoing FFS. Some possible risks can include:

Nerve Damage- If any nerves are damaged or severed during the plastic procedures this can lead to numbness, loss of sensation, and even impact function in the area of the damaged nerves.
Infection- Any time an incision is made or your skin is breached, infection is always a possibility, and this is especially true when implants are placed in your tissues

Your plastic surgeon will go over all the potential risks involved with the plastic procedures that you will have and discuss how to manage these risks appropriately.

5. What Can I Expect During Recovery After Facial Feminisation Surgery?

Your recovery time after FFS will depend on the number and type of plastic procedures involved. The surgeon who performs the procedures should explain any special aftercare instructions, and discuss when you can resume your usual daily activities.

Most plastic procedures will allow you to go home the same day, but you will typically have restrictions on lifting and activities for about 6 weeks after your surgery. You will likely need full-time rest for about 2 weeks in order to recover.

If you have had brow work done then you should not pluck your eyebrows for a few weeks. If you have had rhinoplasty then you may need to take special care to protect the nose area as well. You will need to watch for any signs of infection or other complications. If these signs develop then you should report them to your plastic surgeon immediately.
