A new injectable has arrived in Australia, and it’s like nothing else currently on the market.
Profhilo is a first-of-its-kind “bioremodelling” injectable that hydrates, firms and tightens the skin. Thanks to its unique formulation, Profhilo has a prolonged, deep effect on skin cells that helps remodel ageing and sagging tissue. It also delivers a significant boost of moisture for a more radiant, healthy-looking complexion.
We are excited to bring this innovative product to Pure Aesthetics. For more information, please enquire here.
What Is Profhilo and How Does It Work?
Profhilo is a “natural enhancer” composed of a high concentration of pure hyaluronic acid. This revolutionary injectable helps ease the ageing process by stimulating the production of collagen and elastin and attracting water into the skin. Over time, this results in increased skin support and elasticity, a reduced appearance of fine lines, and an overall youthful fullness and bounce for your skin.
The most common treatment areas include the face, neck and décolletage, but Profhilo can also rejuvenate various areas of the body experiencing a loss of volume, hydration or elasticity. It is suitable for all ages and skin types.
What Are the Differences Between Bioremodelling Injections and Dermal Fillers?
Bioremodellers and dermal fillers are both injectable treatments used to reduce signs of ageing and improve the appearance of the skin. Though Profhilo and many fillers share an active ingredient, there are key differences between these treatments:
- Formulation: Profhilo contains a higher concentration of hyaluronic acid than dermal fillers.
- Consistency: Profhilo has a soft, spreadable consistency meant to diffuse through the layers of the skin, while fillers have a thicker, gel-like texture.
- Purpose: Profhilo is designed to hydrate and stimulate collagen and elastin production; fillers are intended for volumising and contouring.
- Injection Technique: Profhilo is injected superficially into the skin and just below the surface; dermal fillers are injected deeper under the skin.
Who Is a Candidate for Profhilo Injections?
Profhilo is a versatile treatment that a wide range of people can safely undergo. In general, good candidates for bioremodelling injections are healthy adults who do not have allergies or sensitivities to any ingredients in the product.
Other contraindications to treatment include:
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding
- Active skin infection or skin inflammation
- History of abnormal scarring or keloid formation
- Use of certain medications
- Compromised immune system response
Profhilo is best suited for individuals seeking a minimally-invasive way to address dehydration, fine lines and shallower wrinkles, and mild loss of skin elasticity.
How Is the Profhilo Procedure Performed?
During your treatment, your Pure Aesthetics provider will clean the treatment area and, if deemed necessary, apply an anaesthetic. They will then inject the Profhilo into the targeted area using an ultra-fine needle and a micro-injection technique. This process usually takes 30 minutes to an hour to complete, depending on the size of the area(s) being addressed.
The standard approach for facial injections is known as the BAP technique. With this technique, there are five injection points on each side of the face (10 injections total): the upper cheek, lower cheek, nasal base, chin and jawline. This method was developed to maximise the comfort and efficiency of the treatment.
Will It Be Painful?
With any injectable, there can be a stinging sensation during treatment. Fortunately, this is usually mild and brief, and our providers utilise techniques to minimise discomfort as much as possible. Options for pain relief will be discussed during your consultation.
Is Downtime Required After a Profhilo Treatment?
Profhilo is a low-to-no downtime treatment. Downtime is not required, but some patients opt for social downtime if they have noticeable swelling, redness or bruising post-treatment. We suggest scheduling your appointment a few days before any important engagements to account for this.
Your provider will inform you of any aftercare guidelines you should follow. These may include avoiding wearing makeup and engaging in strenuous exercise for 24 hours (though you may resume light activities straight away).
What Risks Are Associated With Bioremodelling Injections?
Profhilo has a good safety profile that is consistent with other injectables. However, no treatment is without risk, and it is important to weigh the pros and cons of any treatment before proceeding.
Some patients experience side effects such as swelling, redness, bruising or tenderness around the injection sites. The most common side effect is localised swelling or lumpiness that resembles mosquito bites. This typically resolves in approximately six to eight hours on the face and 24 to 48 hours on the neck.
Serious adverse events, such as vascular occlusion, have not been reported.
What Results Are Expected With Profhilo?
Profhilo settles into the skin within a few hours of injection, and some patients notice an improvement in their skin’s appearance soon after the treatment. The full effects of the treatment take several days or weeks to emerge, as collagen and elastin production gradually increase.
The duration of your results will depend on several factors, including the condition of your skin, your age and your lifestyle. Profhilo typically lasts several months, and can last up to six to nine months. Your results can be extended indefinitely with regular maintenance treatments.
What Is the Recommended Treatment Schedule?
Most people see the best results with a series of two bioremodelling treatments spaced one month apart. However, everyone responds differently to treatment, and some people may need more or fewer sessions to achieve their goals.
Once you have attained your desired results, you may wish to return for treatment every six months (or as advised by your provider) to sustain them.
What Treatments Can I Combine With Bioremodelling Injections?
Bioremodellers complement many skin treatments available at Pure Aesthetics. Profhilo can be paired with any other injectables, including anti-wrinkle injections and dermal fillers. This can often be done during the same appointment for holistic rejuvenation.
If you are seeking deeper improvements in skin texture and firmness, ask your provider about including dermal needling, hydradermabrasion, microdermabrasion or chemical peels in your long-term treatment plan.
